Briefcase on the Kitchen Table

Dear friends,

I am sorry it has been so many months since my last post. It has been a busy fall and winter and the blog is quite an indulgence. I also wanted to take a bit of time to evaluate the purpose of the blog; it was starting to feel a bit narcissistic to create a platform just for my little corner of the world. I decided to jump back into it; it is mostly for me, not for who reads it. It is also a good way to have dialogue with friends and family far away.

We are coming up on another year of change in our family potentially. I have had nearly a full year at the Public Defender’s Office in St. Louis City and it has been a dream job. Avery will be graduating with his PhD this summer and we will see what is next. If we get to stay in St. Louis that would be awesome; my job is incredible. There is a chance though that this may mean moving somewhere else in which case it would be on to the next adventure.

Mostly I am excited. I am also reflecting back to nearly five years ago when I was anticipating our first big move and life change. When we moved to St. Louis as young newly weds I think we were both more terrified than anything. Neither Avery nor I had ever had to navigate in a brand new city before where we knew practically no one, nor had either of us managed a household or been through the stresses of law school or a PhD program. It has been quite a four and a half year adventure. I am anxious but excited to see where we head next and I am happy that some of you want to witness the ride.
